His Grace Philipose Mar Eusebius
Metropolitan Of Thumpamon Diocese
H.G Philipose Mar Eusebius passed away at 2305 hours (IST) on 21 January 2009, at Muthut Hospital, Pathanamthitta. He was suffering from a malignant tumour of the liver for the past six months and undergoing treatment at Velloor Hospital. Unfortunately his condition worsened and was admitted to Muthut Hosptal two weeks ago. He died peacefully, an inevitable end of a very productive life. He had great vision and a strong faith in God, which made him very popular wherever he went, both at home and abroad.
He was Philipose Thomas, and ‘Baby’ to his family before he became, ‘Philipose Mar Eusebius’. He has been the Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese since 1990 and has transformed the image of the Diocese completely – Colleges, Schools and other institutions, churches and charity organizations progressed under his leadership. His simplicity and lack of interest in any kind of luxury were very obvious and never deviated from God’s straight line. His progressive ideas and down to earth approach to any situation made him very popular with the young, and the uncompromising attitude towards his strong faith and commitment was a gold feather in his attributes.
His aim in life was to serve God and the people around him in their hour of need, and never looked for recognition of any kind. Malankara Orthodox Church was the richer for having H.G Philipose Mar Eusebius as its Metropolitan for 18 years, and the people of Thumpamon Diocese remain blessed under his protective wings. I feel honoured and blessed to have known him and I will always treasure his words, and his final blessing, a month ago: “Mole-e Ninne Ennum Daivam Anugrahikkatte”(God’s blessing will be with you always!)
Thirumeni, We all love you, and will always miss you! May you rest in peace and rise in Glory!
