Sreekumaran Thampi's Return to Malayalam Cinema with his New Film, 'Ammaykkoru Thaaraattu' – 'Lullaby and Solace' to all Mothers!

'Sreekumaran Thampi (SKT) is returning to the Cinema after a long gap of 21 years with the new film, 'Ammaykkoru Thaarattu'-- 'Lullaby for Mother'! He is the Director of the film -- the Script, Screen-play, Distribution, Production, Lyrics and Music are also by Sreekumaran Thampi, just as his last film, 'Bandhukkal Sathrukkal' in 1993, which he had directed and produced, including the Screen-play, Distribution, Lyrics and Music! There were 11 songs in the film, and the 'Seven songs' sung by Yesudas are still on everyone's lips, even after 21 years -- "Bandhuvaaru Sathruvaaru, "Alappuzha Pattanathil...", "Malayalippenne Ninte Manassu...", "Chumbanappoo Kondu Moodee ente Thampuraattee Ninne Urakkaam ...", "Pooniram Kantodivannu ..." (Duet with Chithra), "Thalkkaala Duniyaavu..." and "Koodeyalla Janikkunna Nerathum...", each song better than the other and vice versa – I still listen to them with the same eagerness that I had the very first time I heard them, which I am sure, most music lovers would feel the same! Chithra had rendered the female version of "Bandhuvaaru Sathruvaaru” in her most beautiful voice; P Unnikrishnan, Jagathy Sreekumar and T K Chandrasekhar doing the other songs, one each!

The new film, 'Ammaykkoru Thaaaattu' has Madhu and Sarada in the lead roles, and everyone is eagerly waiting with nostalgia to see these two legends returning together to the silver screen -- 'Madhu and Sarada' combination was a craze among Malayaalees since Vincent's 'Murappennu' in 1965, 'Sethumadhavan's 'Archana' in 1966 and Adoor Gopalakrishnan's 'Swayamvaram' in 1972! 'Swayamvaram', was of course, the pivotal point in the history of 'Malayalam Cinema': since it's release, it was always, 'Malayalam cInema before 'Swayanvaram' and after 'Swayamvaram'! Madhu made his entry into Malayalam cinema with N N Pisharody's 'Ninamaninja Kaalppaadukal' in 1963 and Sarada, with Kunchacko's 'Inapraavukal' in 1965 -- many films and awards, including National Awards, State Awards, etc, for both!

And of course the heavenly touch in SKT's 'Ammaykkoru Thaaraattu' comes in the form of two great legends, 'Yesudas and Sreekumaran Thampi' -- the alluringly seductive voice of Yesudas, and the beautiful words and the scintillating music of Sreekumaran Thampi! I don't need to hear the songs with the 'Celestial touch' to know that they will be sheer pleasure to listen to, the songs that one would wish to listen to again and again! There are seven songs in the film, written and composed by Sreekumaran Thampi. "Ormma peyyukayaay...ormma peyyukayaay..." is a duet by Yesudas and Chithra; Yesudas has another song, "Ammaykkoru Thaaraattu... Kannuneeril Aanandathin Aaraattu...'. Both these songs were recorded on 18 August at the 'Marian Studio' in Chennai, and I can't wait to hear these songs, as I know it will be like heaven! I only wish that all the songs in the film had the 'Celestial' touch, but I guess one can only hope! The other songs would be rendered by other talented artists. I wish the very best for Sreekumaran Thampi's return to Malayalam Cinema and I hope that 'Ammaykkoru Thaaraattu' is welcomed by all with open arms!
