· Kerala State Film Awards have been announced, showing a great effort in restoring our faith in the system! Murali is chosen as the best actor, for his brilliant performance in ‘Neythukaaran’ directed by the new comer, Priyanandanan. Suhasini bags the best actress award for ‘Theerthadanam’. T K Rajiv Kumar’s ‘Shesham’ is the best film.
Yesudas is in his rightful place, as the best male singer for ‘Aakaasha deepangal saakshi’, in ‘Ravanaprabhu; his ‘effortless singing’ was praised by the jury. Chithra is the best female singer for ‘Mooli Mooli’, in ‘Theerthadanam’. Music awards for Lyrics and direction went to Gireesh Puthencheri and M G Radhakrishnan, for ‘Ravanaprabhu’ and ‘Achaneyanenikkishtam’, respectively. TV Chandran claimed the best director’s throne, with ‘Dani’ and Priyanandanan was selected as the best new talent for ‘Neythukaran’.
· ‘Gandharvan’ on a winning streak again! Best male singer 2002, Uduppi Sreekrishna matam Aasthanavidwan, Swathi Ratnam Award at Chennai, and MKK Nair Award from FACT, Cochin: all these, in the month of April: must be the April shower, after the brilliance of ‘Padma Bhushan’!!
· ‘Four old men’ at the top and the best ‘old man’ bags the crown! Murali, in ‘Neythukaran, Mohan Lal in ‘Ravanaprabhu, Mammootty in ‘Dani’ and Jayram in ‘Theerthadanam. It’s for the first time that ‘ four oldies’ (I mean the characters in the films; all the actors are young of course!) were nominated for the best actor award and the jury, lead by Priyadarshan, chose Murali as Kerala’s best.
